Take Control of a World War I Fighter Plane

Dogfight: The Great War is a classic side-view airplane shooting game set during World War I. You take control of a Sopwith Camel fighter plane and face enemy aircraft during a series of missions. The game keeps the action simple. You fly up and down, line up your plane with enemy targets, and fire the machine gun when an opponent enters your path. The game focuses on quick flying and accurate shooting rather than complicated controls.

The missions put your fighter against different kinds of enemies. You can face German fighter pilots, bombers, and anti-aircraft guns placed on the ground. Some enemy planes are easier to defeat, while stronger pilots can take more hits before going down. This gives the battles a steady increase in difficulty and keeps players alert during each mission.

Simple Controls Make Flying Easy to Learn

Dogfight: The Great War uses only a few main controls. The Up Arrow and Down Arrow keys move the plane vertically. The Space Bar fires the machine guns mounted on the front of the aircraft. The small control setup makes the game easy to start, even for players who do not usually play airplane games.

The challenge comes from using these controls at the right time. Moving too high or too low can make it harder to line up a shot. Staying in one position can also leave the plane open to enemy fire. Good control means keeping the aircraft at a useful height while watching for the next target.

Fight Different Types of Enemies

The enemy forces in Dogfight: The Great War do not all behave in the same way. Regular enemy pilots are easier to bring down, while Ace Pilots need more shots. German bombers move more slowly, but they can take several hits and may also have a rear gunner that fires back. Ground-based anti-aircraft guns add another danger from below.

These different enemies make each mission more interesting. A player needs to notice which target appears and decide where to move before opening fire. The game rewards players who keep the plane under control while dealing with several threats.

Ten Missions Lead to a Big Final Battle

Dogfight: The Great War includes ten missions. The campaign builds toward a final battle against a huge war Zeppelin. This gives the game a clear sense of progress. Players move through different encounters and face stronger challenges as they approach the final stage.

The final Zeppelin battle gives the campaign a memorable goal. Reaching it means handling the different enemy types and learning how to control the fighter more effectively throughout the earlier missions.

Play With a Friend

The game also includes a two-player option. In the multiplayer dogfight, one player uses the Arrow Keys and Space Bar, while the second player uses W and S to move and Left Shift to fire. This creates a simple local battle where two players can control their own aircraft on the same computer.

The two-player mode adds a different kind of challenge. Instead of fighting computer-controlled enemies, players can compete directly and see who can control the aircraft and land better shots.

A Classic Plane Game With Straightforward Action

Dogfight: The Great War stands out because it keeps its controls simple while offering several types of enemies and a full ten-mission campaign. The World War I setting gives the game an old-fashioned aircraft combat feel, and the side-view design keeps the action easy to follow.

Players who enjoy classic browser games can spend time learning the movement, improving their aim, and working through the missions. The two-player mode also gives the game extra replay value. Dogfight: The Great War stays focused on flying, shooting, and surviving each encounter without filling the game with complicated systems.
