Fireboy and Watergirl 1: The Forest Temple is a puzzle platform game where two characters must work together to escape a series of temple rooms. It is the first game in the Fireboy and Watergirl series. The original game arrives as a browser game in November 2009, with Oslo Albet as the developer.

The game centers on two characters with different strengths. Fireboy can walk through lava but cannot touch water. Watergirl can move through water but cannot enter lava. Both characters need to avoid the green liquid found in the temple. These simple rules form the base of the puzzles and make each character important.

Solve Puzzles Together

Each room gives Fireboy and Watergirl tasks that need careful timing. Players can pull levers, press buttons, move boxes, activate lifts, and use platforms to create a safe path. Some buttons need to stay pressed, which means one character may need to wait on a switch while the other moves through the opened passage.

The two characters also have separate exit doors. Fireboy needs to reach his red door, while Watergirl needs to reach her blue door. Both characters must reach the exits to finish a level. The game also places red and blue diamonds around the rooms, giving players another reason to explore every part of the level.

Two Players or Solo Play

Fireboy and Watergirl 1 works especially well as a two-player game. Two people can share one keyboard and control the characters at the same time. One player controls Fireboy while the other handles Watergirl. The game can also be played alone by controlling both characters and switching attention between them.

The controls stay simple. Fireboy uses the arrow keys in the classic setup, while Watergirl uses the W, A, and D keys. This makes the game easy to start, although the puzzles still require good coordination.

Timing Matters

Fireboy and Watergirl 1: The Forest Temple becomes more challenging as the rooms introduce new combinations of switches, platforms, hazards, and moving objects. A player needs to think about both characters instead of treating them as separate games.

The temple contains around thirty stages in the original version, while the current official release describes 32 levels. Players can also improve their results by collecting the diamonds and completing rooms quickly.
